Roger Willliams University Gabelli School of Business
RGB recently completed the design for interior renovations to the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business at the Bristol campus of Roger Williams University. The building received new finishes on the upper floors that consist primarily of faculty offices. Alterations to the floor plan of the first floor enabled the team to install a new study lounge, reconfigured corridor, and experiential learning area. The experiential learning area is a new ‘trading room’ in which students can perform live financial market trading using trading terminals up to current financial industry standards.
Additionally, the plan included a flexible open lounge space that serves as a breakout area for the new ‘trading room’ and other areas of the first floor. Critically, the team was able to define the new first floor spaces by reducing a double corridor plan to a single corridor. The design team also made creative use of flooring patterns for direction and space differentiation. In creating a fire rated space, the team reduced the visual impact of the fire doors by making them flush with the walls when open.
