Roger Williams Medical Center Emergency Department
Roger Williams Medical Center retained RGB to develop a plan and cost estimate for a new addition and interior renovations to the Emergency Department. Originally constructed in 1987, the Emergency Department suffered from severe overcrowding. Most patient areas were being used at double their original capacity. The original facility was designed for thirteen patient bays and was operating with twenty one patient bays. As a result, most of the patient areas did not meet the minimum space requirements and did not provide adequate patient privacy. The challenge for this project was maintaining an Emergency Department that is open 24/7 while constructing additions and renovations. The successful solution was a strong phasing plan and communication with the project team.
