Newport City Hall
RGB was called upon to perform a facility analysis and code study for the City of Newport at its public buildings. At the historic City Hall, the report found ADA, fire, and other code issues, which necessitated changes to the existing elevator, which was undersized by current standards. Three options for implementation were presented with different phasing and costs. The City decided upon an elevator addition rather than an intrusive elevator replacement. The aesthetics of the addition were allowed to differ from the stone masonry of the historic hall because it would be difficult and costly to match the existing exterior.
RGB completed construction documents for the addition as well as other renovations that included office reconfigurations and counter access for the public, fire and ADA code upgrades, and exterior masonry restoration. RGB sought to combine the new elevator, fire code upgrades, and masonry restoration under one bidding process in an effort to garner competitive bids and to provide an efficient construction schedule.
