National Grid Providence
RGB was selected in July of 2009 to provide preliminary design services for the renovations of the National Grid facilities located at 280 Melrose Street, Providence. The scope of services included: review recently developed prototype model for typical operations centers and adapt the prototype to the site specific characteristics, validate the head counts, traffic counts and space requirements, prepare an existing conditions report, develop a list of relevant permits and permitting schedule, provide schematic layouts based on programming requirements, provide a cost estimate of recommended renovations, and provide recommendations for sequencing of renovations. The proposed cost to renovate the existing facility was nearly $33 million.
The cost of renovating the existing buildings at Melrose Street was higher than the owner had anticipated, which led to reviewing other existing sites and options for a new consolidated site. RGB provided existing conditions reports and planning options for the following sites: Dexter Street, RI, Northampton, MA, North Andover, MA, Cranston, RI, and a Command Center in New Hampshire.
