Providence, Rhode Island – RGB Architects, a leading architecture, project management and interior design firm established in 1946.
We were happy to promote the ACE Mentor Program’s externship in 2021. We welcomed Adriana Abby, a student at the Chariho High School in Wood River Junction, Rhode Island. She participated in the workforce over her summer vacation to learn more about working at an architectural firm and grow her skillset.
As part of her externship, Adriana had to create a residential project over an 80 hour timeframe. She worked diligently on designing a residential home, from picking out the size of the lot to the overall layout and structural aspects. She was coached by Jason throughout this process, and now she has a wonderful work product to use for her college portfolio.
“It was a great opportunity to learn when designing what to look for, how to present to clients a new design and how I can actually push my imagination.” says Adriana Abby. “I enjoyed seeing the different teams collaborating with the interior designers. It helped me realize that there was more to an architecture firm. I am finding that I am liking the architectural part of construction. I hope to major in both Civil and Architectural Engineering when attending college to broaden my knowledge even more in this industry.”
RGB Architects has been involved in the ACE Mentor Program over the years. However, Jason Iacobucci, President of RGB, has reignited our partnership this past summer. Overall, it was a great opportunity for both Jason and Adriana.
When asked, what inspires you most about mentoring students regarding architecture and design? Jason replied simply, “With years of working in this industry, I have been very fortunate to have had great mentors myself, which provided me with much knowledge and expertise that I am humbled to be able to pass along to the younger generation.” Lastly, I asked Jason, what advice do you have for young designers and architects? He replied, “The best advice I can give is to experience as many different aspects of this industry as possible. It will provide a better understanding of the day-to-day workings in the A/E/C industry. The benefit as a new individual entering into the workforce is the learning curve will not be as drastic, and you will be very well-rounded out the gate.”
It has been a pleasure to have Adriana as part of our extended RGB team! We wish her all the best in her endeavors!
