Johnson & Wales Hospitality Center complete




RGB provided design and construction documents for renovations and alterations to the existing Harborview Facility located in Cranston, Rhode Island. The existing building is classified as a non-separated, mixed-use occupancy consisting of a two-story assembly and dining structure connected to a five-story residence hall. Scope of the renovations to the assembly area included upgrades and alterations to the upper level function areas and lower level student dining areas, a complete revamp of the lower level kitchen to provide state-of-the-art food preparation and teaching facilities, and improvements to flow and utilization of existing space. The project also takes advantage of proximity to Narragansett Bay through the demolition of an old pool enclosure to construct an exterior plaza. The cost for the work associated with the assembly areas was $8.5 million, and consisted of approximately 22,900 square feet of interior renovations and 15,000 square feet of exterior plaza improvements.

Scope of the renovations to the residence hall include finish upgrades to all residence rooms and public corridors. The budget for the work associated with the dormitory areas is $2.5 million, and consisted of approximately 53,340 square feet of interior renovations, primarily in the resident bathrooms and corridors.

The renovation work was phased to occur with the building occupied.

Attleboro DPW projects put on fast track

RGB was recently selected to design two buildings for the City of Attleboro Department of Public Works and Water Department. Attleboro’s Sun Chronicle reports:

Commons at Providence Station approved

The Capital Center Commission approved the updated plan for Building B at Parcel 6 in the Capital Center. The multi-residential building was approved nearly 10 years ago and the current design reflects the original approved design as well as the aesthetics of Building A.

The Commons at Providence Station

RGB has been designing a new apartment building for Providence to be located in the Capitol Cove area adjacent to Providence Station. The design is still not finished, but it is intended to go alongside an existing phase of construction from 2004. We’re excited about the possibility of bringing construction cranes back to Providence in the near future with this project. The schematic rendering shown depicts a view from the street of the planned project. The rendering reflects some editing done this week, at our design team’s direction, by Intern Architect Jeff Bento.

Successful candidate must have the following skill sets; registered to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, 8-15 years of experience in designing, documenting, and administering construction of facilities of $2 – $30 million in construction costs, ability to conduct team meetings with consulting engineers, be well versed in SD, DD, CD, and CA phases of design. Knowledge of energy and building codes, excellent management and communications skills, and be proficient in AutoCAD, Revit a plus.

Intern Architects

RGB in Providence is looking for individuals that want to work on a variety of commercial, retail, multi-residential, and academic institution projects. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture as well as be proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Duties would include field measuring and documentation of existing conditions, developing documents from schematic design through completion of construction documents, review of shop drawings, and performance of on site observations during construction.

Project Manager Rick Jackson

Project Manager Rick Jackson, Assoc. AIA

Richard Jackson has joined Robinson Green Beretta as a project manager. Richard holds a BA in architecture from Boston Architecture Center and is a resident of Foxboro, MA. His professional experience includes more than 20 years at firms in Massachusetts, working on medical, civil, and commercial projects. He comes most recently from the Boston office of HDR Architects where he worked on medical facilities, and an intermodal transportation project.

Intern Architect Matt Nicholson

RGB would also like to formally announce Matthew Nicholson who joined Robinson Green Beretta as an intern architect. A recent transplant from Texas, Matt is a graduate of University of Oklahoma. Matt brings architectural experience from firms in Dallas, Nashville, and Charlotte. In 10 years in the industry he has worked on numerous municipal facilities and new K-12 educational facility designs.

Lincoln Police Department addition

RGB presented Design Development for a new addition and interior and exterior renovation to the existing police department building and associated site in Lincoln, RI.

The goals of the facility design are to increase staff efficiency and morale and to increase occupant safety, ease of effective policing, and positive public perception of the department. The new facility will be approximately 4,400 square feet across two levels, and will contain general administrative support and primary detention spaces. The facility will be a two-story masonry and steel frame construction with a low slope (flat) roof. Material will be chosen to be durable and cost effective with primary materials anticipated to be masonry brick, dimensional stone, metal and aluminum frame fenestration building enclosure systems. The plan represents a two-phased construction build-out with the objective to keep the existing police department fully operational during construction periods. The final outcome of this project shall be a newly enlarged police department that represents and functions as a unified public safety building. The design and construction of the Town of Lincoln Police Department will seek to provide cost efficient means and methods by maximizing functional square footage, providing energy efficient design, materials and systems, and making use of existing conditions.

Technology will be designed to be accessible, efficient, flexible, reliable and cost effective. RGB will work to ensure that the building systems and technology provided in the Town of Lincoln Police Department are interoperable, support the current demands of the facility, and also provide flexibility to align with future trends.
